I know some (a lot) of people aren’t big fans of celebrating Valentine’s Day a.k.a., the “Hallmark” holiday. I totally get it, there can be a lot of pressure and expectation, and that usually leads to disappointment. That’s why my husband and I don’t really celebrate it other than a nice card for one another. However, we do love celebrating it with the kids. If you know me at all, you know we celebrate holidays BIG in our home.
For Valentines’ Day I always set up a “sweetheart” breakfast for my two littlest sweethearts. I decorate their little table, make a festive breakfast, and they each get a little surprise. They really look forward to these special breakfasts and I love how excited they get when they wake up and see their little table all set up. Here are some pics from this years breakfast.
These arrow through the heart waffles were a huge it! (made with a skewer, marshmallows and strawberries)
My absolute favorite woolie ball garlands can be found here. Pretty sure I have one for every holiday;)
If you’ve seen my instagram lately you know that I love to rotate our books out for each holiday too. It makes it fun, festive and engaging for the kids. We have so many books and it’s a great way to display them and make them “new” again for the kids. I will be doing a future post about some of our favorite books and how we display them throughout our home so that we have a chance to enjoy them all.
Something new I did this year was “shower the kids with love.” We love to use positive affirmations with the kids and I thought Valentine’s Day was a great opportunity to take it a step further. Starting on February 1st through the 14th I stuck a paper heart (from the $1 store) on their bedroom door. Each heart had something I loved about them. I couldn’t believe how much they loved this, they couldn’t wait to see what each heart said in the morning! I will definitely be doing this again next year.
Hope you all had a LOVE-ly Valentine’s Day!
